Asim Zehri, MD

Meet Dr. Asim Zehri, a physician with Oberlin Pediatrics, Raleigh Pediatricians

Dr. Asim Zehri grew up in a small city in northwest Arizona along the Colorado River, where his parents eventually settled after immigrating from Pakistan. This upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of cultural identity and resilience in the face of challenges, as well as love for spicy foods that his taste buds have not forgiven him for.

Driven by his faith and a desire to lead a purposeful life, Dr. Zehri's path to medicine was shaped by his early responsibilities in caring for his sister, who was diagnosed with epilepsy. Witnessing the impact of illness on his family guided his path toward a career in healthcare.

Through his experiences tutoring children and working with refugee families, he recognized families as the foundation of society. Dr. Zehri saw pediatric care as a means of uplifting entire communities. He chose to specialize in pediatrics to make a meaningful impact on society by serving its most cherished members - children. Inspired by their curiosity, engagement, and energy, he finds working with children to be not only fulfilling but also a source of continuous learning and growth, even if it sometimes means being schooled by a five-year old. He has a special interest in pediatric hypertension and exploring the integration of alternative medicine into pediatric care. His goal as a pediatrician is to continuously learn from his patients, understanding their likes, wants, and needs with each visit, especially when those needs include a sticker after every shot. Dr. Zehri values the perspectives of his patients and their families, striving for shared decision-making in providing compassionate and comprehensive care.

Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Zehri decided to practice in Raleigh, North Carolina, to be closer to family, recognizing the importance of familial support in both personal and professional endeavors. His goal as a pediatrician is to forge meaningful connections with his patients and their families, striving for shared decision-making and understanding their unique needs and preferences with each visit.

Besides doctor duties, Dr. Zehri is married to his wife from Canada and keeps up with his fitness by chasing his two energetic boys. He enjoys drinking chai, hanging out with family and friends, and working on his dad jokes.
