Expecting a Baby / Newborns
Congratulations!
Having a baby is one of the most exciting times in your life. Nothing is more rewarding than the privilege of caring for this new life and providing an environment in which both you and your child will thrive and develop. Choosing the pediatrician that can best care for your child is an important decision. At Oberlin Road Pediatrics, we share your joy and enthusiasm and look forward to the opportunity in partnering with you on the exciting journey of raising a child.
Getting Acquainted
We schedule free prenatal group appointments weekly at 5:00 pm with one of our physicians. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our doctors. During this visit, we will answer any questions that you have about our practice or your new child.

In the hospital
If you deliver at either Rex hospital or WakeMed Raleigh, simply tell the hospital staff that you have chosen Oberlin Road Pediatrics as your child's pediatrician. Our office will be notified of your baby's birth by the hospital staff. One of our physicians will come and see you and the baby on the first morning after the baby's birth, usually between 7-10 am. We will examine the baby and take care of him/her every day that you are in the hospital.
We are proud of our New Parents' service, where one of our experienced nurses, Julia Hauser or Kim Bennett, come to visit our first time parents while they are in the hospital. They will take the time to discuss Baby 101 care tips and share with you our Newborn Instruction Booklet. We have found that this complementary service really soothes some of the new-parent jitters.
After Discharge
We will see your newborn in the clinic within 1-3 days after discharge from the hospital. The goal of this visit is to check the newborn's weight during a time of expected weight loss, and examine for jaundice.
Believe us, it will take much longer for you to get your new family assembled and out the door then you anticipate. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of your visit so that you can turn in completed paperwork and have the full appointment time with the doctor. Don't forget your diaper bag!

Again, congratulations! Enjoy this exciting time.
